Sep 04, 2014 I use an exFAT partition for sharing data between my OS X and Windows partitions on my macbook. Sometimes the exFAT partition will become corrupted (but fixable using $ sudo fsckexfat -d disk0s4 ), and I was wondering if anyone knew if Yosemite would have any stability/reliability. Mar 07, 2016 It is not open source. ExFAT is the file system I recommend for external USB disks. Fortunately for Mac users, Apple has an agreement with Microsoft and so OS X supports exFAT drives (as of Snow Leopard). You can plug in an external exFAT USB drive and read and write to it on your Mac. While Mac OS X includes only read-only support for NTFS, Macs offer full read-write support for exFAT. ExFAT drives can be accessed on Linux by installing the appropriate software. Devices can be a bit of a mixed bag. The PlayStation 4 supports exFAT; the PlayStation 3 does not. The Xbox One supports it, but the Xbox 360 does not. Jun 23, 2013 Mac OS X 10.6.5 was the first version which supported exFAT read/write operations. On the Windows platform, MS provides drivers for Windows XP and newer (newer versions (7+?) have already the drivers).

A: Because of their large capacity, SDXC cards (SD cards 64GB and larger) use a special format system called exFAT, which is not supported in computers with Windows XP, Windows Vista before Service Pack 1, and Mac OS X before version 10.6.6.
To add exFAT support to an Windows XP computer, follow this link, then download and install the appropriate update file for your operating system.
To add exFAT support to a Vista computer, upgrade to at least Service Pack 1. Service packs for Vista can be downloaded here.
For OS X versions before 10.6, you will need to upgrade your Mac to at least version 10.6. If you have version 10.6, click the Apple logo in the upper-left corner, and select Software Update to apply all current updates to the OS.
